When we walked inside, I immediately realized I’d been there before many years ago (mid 1990s) when this place was The Little Connor cigar bar. I’m not a BBQ lover so I did not have high expectations about my visit to Sawmill with friends. Turkey should be sliced, not shredded and dry, and a two meat platter should have more than 2 slices of brisket on it especially given the price.

One of the unwritten rules of barbecue in Texas is, if you run out of food, you close and go home. Another in our party asked for fried mushrooms… also out. Someone else at the table ordered a baked potato, they were our. My wife’s potato salad was a soupy mess that didn’t appear to have any potatoes in it. My son ordered the « 2 bone plate» and received two squishy, overly fatty ribs that were practically inedible. The turkey was comprised of shreds of white meat, bits of dark meat, skin, tendons and fat. 2 meat plate came with 2 dry slices of brisket that didn’t tasted smoked at all, and a lump of turkey meat that frankly looked like they’d run out. The slaw was okay, but could have been better, the beans tasted like they were out of a can and doctored with barbecue sauce, definitely nothing homemade about them. I ordered a 2 meat platter brisket and smoked turkey with a side of beans and slaw. I lived in Houston for almost 20 years so I tend to hold barbecue to high standards.

Was really looking forward to some great barbecue based on Unilocal reviews. Visiting family who just moved to Joplin.
